IBM recently announced an automation initiative to improve customer service and the bottom line for a major online automotive marketplace. The company, AutoTrader.com, is using IBM’s Smarter Commerce tools to make its Electronic Sales Ordering (ESO) system simpler and more efficient.
Through AutoTrader, car companies and manufacturers sell vehicles to customers, who can also trade in cars and read reviews. The Website considers its innovative ESO system a vital element of its business model, as it is a unique system for people and businesses to research, locate and advertise vehicles. In 2010, "InformationWeek" listed AutoTrader among the country’s most groundbreaking users of business technology primarily because of its successful ESO system.
The new automation tools make AutoTrader’s ESO system even better by using service-oriented architecture (SOA), optimized data management, sales cataloging, order configuration, information management and real-time business intelligence.
IBM Sterling Commerce Configure, Price, Quote software makes buying and selling on the Website easier, as it brings automation to all levels of company practice, from marketing and sales to customer support. The software streamlines promotional processes and organizes orders for the company’s advertising program.
Integrating with the Website’s house-designed applications, the software simplifies the online ordering method for customers. For dealerships, the software creates customized advertisement packages to enable reaching an ideal market. It even helps design online advertisements.
"Providing access to leading-edge applications of information and technology are core to providing the best online automotive shopping experience," said Gib Finley, director of business applications for AutoTrader.com said in a statement. "IBM delivered innovative ordering technology that make it as easy as possible for our clients to do business with us."
As we recently discussed on "Smarter Technology," two-thirds of companies plan to employ IT process automation in the coming years. With success stories like this from AutoTrader, the automation trend is surely to increase. How is your company using automation to improve its effectiveness?
