A study about the dating habits of iPhone users has some thinking that buyers of these mobile boxes could be lousy spouses. The real story though is something very different.
The study showed that 30 percent of iPhone owners are likely to break up via text message or e-mail. Twenty-five percent broke up with someone else because they spent too much time on their mobile device, and 30 percent are likely to be turned off by someone who isn’t quite with today’s technology. What’s more, the research suggested one in five watched adult material thanks to their iPhone, and these little gadgets are far more important to them than something like a college degree.
Statistics like those are enough to turn anyone off, and they’re probably a good basis for not dating someone. The real problem here, though, isn’t the device itself or the statistics. It’s the individuals who own the devices.
Half of all iPhone owners are under 30.
Fifteen percent are students.
Sixty percent browse online with their iPhones every single day.
Twenty-something technophiles pretty much sums it up, and therein lies the real problem with dating an iPhone owner. Sure, they’re shallow. Sure, they’re interested in adult material on their phones. Guess what? They’re young! If it weren’t the iPhone that characterized them, it would be some other device, fashion or lifestyle.
The bottom line? The study is hardly scientific enough for you to decide whether or not to get romantically involved with someone who owns a given phone, but if you do happen to hook up with an iPhone user thanks to an online dating site or just a face-to-face meeting, you should probably lay down some ground rules, and don’t forget to take his or her age into account—after all, it pretty closely correlates with dating maturity levels.
