While cloud computing promises to make enterprise processes more efficient, IT managers have to create viable, scalable strategies to leverage this technology effectively. One area where the cloud can make a huge difference is supply chain management. Karthik Srinivasan offers a three-prong strategy for cloud-based SCM: Integrate your partners’ assets into your SCM process flow; create collaboration among people and processes across your value chain; and deploy operational business intelligence (BI that works and is plugged into other business processes).
The city of Katowice, Poland, is the first European city to be selected to participate in IBM’s Smarter Cities program. Under the terms of this initiative, 100 cities around the world will receive—or have already been given—a donation of services and/or technology worth between $250,000 and $400,000. Participating cities in the three-year program use these technologies and services to help improve municipal services and to use in other initiatives. The cities also share key learnings and best practices with one another.
