Hordes of people won’t throng to ON24’s corporate offices in San Francisco on Nov. 17. Local airport, hotels and restaurants aren’t staffing-up for a surge in business, and the city’s taxis don’t predict an uptick in passengers. Yet on that day, the developer plans to host VUE2011, a user event expected to draw about 4,000 people from more than 80 nations.
Instead of expecting companies to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars, euros, pounds or yen to send executives to California, professionals can attend this virtual trade show event anywhere via PC, tablet or smartphone. They don’t lose hours or days to travel time, yet they can still learn from industry leaders and colleagues in their fields.
IBM social media evangelist Sandy Carter will be a keynote speaker at this week’s VUE2011 virtual conference.
Hosted by a pre-taped Brian Wilson of the World Series champion San Francisco Giants, the virtual event was designed in part to demonstrate the technology’s ability to communicate virtually with many people simultaneously. VUE2011 is slated to include business executives sharing best practices and case studies, and will be available for view on all leading mobile devices.
“I’m hosting the VUE because I know what it takes to win, in both sports and business,” said Wilson. “Just like in baseball, business success requires confidence and communication. You also need the right equipment. Virtual events are the communications platform for high-performance companies.”
Wilson will act as 3D host, leading attendees through a virtual tour of San Francisco and famous tourist destinations such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and Union Square. The virtual trade show includes a video animation that guides VUE attendees via cable car, transporting them from one session to another, Denise Persson, ON24 chief marketing officer, told "Smarter Technology."
Keynote speakers include David Meerman Scott, marketing strategist and best-selling author of “The New Rules of Marketing & PR,” and Sandy Carter, a social media thought leader, author and evangelist at IBM. Other presenters include ON24 clients such as Microsoft, IBM, CA Technologies, Deloitte, Cisco, PwC and Sodexo, who will demonstrate how webcasting and virtual events enhance the effectiveness of enterprise communications programs, discuss real-world implementations, and share what they’ve learned, such as how to accelerate program ROI and increase reach by integrating social media and providing mobile access to content.
